The Deepwater impact on Marine Protected Areas

BP’s Deepwater Horizon oil spill is disastrous in countless different ways.  It is undeniably an environmental catastrophe, destroying key marine and shoreline habitats.  The Commission for Environmental Cooperation has recently compiled their North American Environmental Atlas, which includes Marine Protected Areas and Marine Ecoregions, and we were curious to see how these areas are being affected by the oil spill.  Unfortunately, these “protected” areas are turning into toxic waters.  Download the Google Earth file and play the tour from the table of contents to see the extent of the oil spill, it’s predicted extent, and how our marine habitats are being affected.
