BP’s Deepwater Horizon oil spill is disastrous in countless different ways. It is undeniably an environmental catastrophe, destroying key marine and shoreline habitats. The Commission for Environmental Cooperation has recently compiled their North American Environmental Atlas, which includes Marine Protected Areas and Marine Ecoregions, and we were curious to see how these areas are being affected by the oil spill. Unfortunately, these “protected” areas are turning into toxic waters.
